Environmental Air and Odor

Air and Odor

We are making efforts to create a clean air environment by measuring and analyzing odor pollutants emitted into the atmosphere.

Odor is defined a smell which irritating gaseous substances stimulates a person's sense of smell and gives offensive and disgusting odors and it can be considered as a form of air pollution. In order to prevent bad odors caused by business activities, there is the Malodor Prevention Act (Clean Air Conservation Act), which aims to preserve the atmospheric environment and enable people to live in a healthy and pleasant environment.
WorkplaceBusiness place
Samples should be collected from odor-emitting facilities, machinery, equipment, etc., measured, and the process should be improved or constantly maintained based on the amount of odor emission.
Efficiency evaluationEfficiency evaluation
In order to judge the efficiency of the odor prevention facilities, the samples of the inlet and outlet of the prevention facilities should be collected and analyzed.
Evaluation items

Designated odor

When it is necessary to check whether or not odorous substances are emitted, 22 odorous substances determined by the Ministry of the Environment shall be measured by instrumental analysis and the examinations should pass the regulation standards. Samples of designated odorous substances are collected at the workplace site boundary.

Complex odor

It is a method to measure complex odor caused by two or more odor substances. It calculates the dilution rate of the sample by applying air dilution sensory method.

Specific atmospheric hazardous substances

Even at low concentrations, substances can be directly or indirectly harmful to human health or the growth of plants and animals through long-term exposure; these substances are deemed necessary for management in atmospheric emissions and are set by the Ordinance of the Ministry of Environment.
